What is your favorite public art piece in Manhattan?

 

Any billboard by Felix Gonzalez-Torres.  The ones with text are particularly great. Felix Gonzalez-Torres Foundation, 525 W 24 st.

Favorite bookstore?

 

Dashwood Books on Bond Street for photo books. Printed Matter in Chelsea for one-off zines and small edition artist publications.  Karma Karma in the West Village. And Richard Prince's Fulton Ryder … by appointment only.

Share an obscure architectural treasure in Manhattan.

 

Avery Library at Columbia University.  The whole campus is great, but not obscure.

Chelsea, to encourage visitors to explore New York's unparalleled but sometimes intimidating art scene.

Where is your office located now?

 

My office is in the Condé Nast Building, at 4 Times Square.

Which park in Manhattan is your favorite?

 

Walter de Maria's Earth Room in SoHo.

What is your favorite work of art in a Manhattan museum or gallery?

 

Richard Serra's One Ton Prop (House of Cards), 1986, at MoMA (although I don't think it's on view at the moment).

Where in Manhattan do you go for creative inspiration?

 

The New York Public Library.

Favorite interior design of specific shop/building/house, etc.?

 

It changes, but the lobby bar at the Bowery Hotel is a great space.  Also, the Crosby Street Hotel and The NoMad.

Best place to take a date in Manhattan?

 

Maialino at the Gramercy Park Hotel is a good spot.

Which block would you tell a friend visiting Manhattan for the first time not to miss? Why?

 

Prince between Elizabeth and Mott in Nolita is a good one.  That block has a nice ambiance.
